My back pain began in my late teens, as a result of a dance injury. The pain persisted, and I had to quit dance, which was my passion and outlet. I tried many forms of treatment (chiropractor, physiotherapy, pilates), and the pain continued for a decade. I was told that I would need to continue to treat and manage the pain for the rest of my life. It was devastating and isolating.
I was pointed in the direction of yoga by a friend. I wasn't sold on it at first, but over time, I started to notice that there was a correlation between yoga and less pain. The more I practiced yoga, the less treatment I was requiring, and my back pain was decreasing. My stress levels also became more manageable.
I've learned that you can change your pain through yoga! With the right tools and guidance, you have the ability to change your pain, improve your mobility and enjoy the quality of life that you deserve.
Pain Care Aware Yoga provides tools to gain greater awareness around your body and your pain, education on the science behind pain, offers breathing practices which can help reduce pain and regulate your nervous system, and exploration of safe movement practices to help regain mobility, build strength and resilience.
Know that you are not alone and that you can learn how to change your pain!
