My name is Kerri Sumner and I am mother of two, a Certified Yoga Therapist and an experienced Yoga teacher. I am a certified in Pain Care Yoga therapy for groups and individuals and a Trauma-Sensitive instructor.
My background is in corporate marketing, where I spent over 15 years of my career. I was introduced to yoga in 2006 and quickly began to experience the benefits of yoga including reduced chronic back pain and less stress. The more yoga that I practiced, the less pain I experienced. Over time, my frequent chiropractor treatments were no longer required to manage my pain. The balance that yoga brings to my life is what keeps me coming back to my mat, and why I am so passionate about sharing therapeutic yoga with others.
Yoga and Somatic Therapy has supported me through personal loss, grief, trauma and Post Traumatic Stress (PTS).
I provide yoga therapy one-on-one and for small groups, using the tools of yoga to support healing and working towards individual wellness goals.
My teaching style is focused on simple clear language, accessibility and inclusion for all levels and abilities. I believe that yoga is for everyone, and the tools that yoga support healing the body, mind and heart.
Training and experience:
500hr certified instructor (Yyoga Teachers College), with 13 years of teaching experience.
Certified Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT) with Inner Peace Yoga Therapy.
Specialized training and certification in Therapeutic Yoga for people with persistent Pain for individuals and groups (Pain Care Aware), and continued 300hr profession mentorship under Neil Pearson. I hold certification in advanced assessment and treatment for functional movement (Functional Yoga Therapy), and am a certified Trauma-Informed yoga instructor (Langara College).
