About Kerri

My name is Kerri Sumner. I am a mother of two, a Certified Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT), and an experienced Yoga Teacher with 15 years of teaching experience. I specialize in yoga therapy for people living with chronic pain, trauma, and stress, working one-on-one and in small groups to support healing and help individuals reach their wellness goals.

My Approach

I believe that yoga is for everyone. My teaching style is grounded in clear, simple language, accessibility, and inclusion for all levels and abilities. Using movement, breath, mindfulness, and somatic practices, I guide clients to:

  • Regulate the nervous system and ease stress
  • Reduce pain and tension in the body
  • Build mobility, strength, and resilience
  • Reconnect with your body
  • Explore tools for healing body, mind, and heart
     

My Journey

My path to yoga therapy began in 2006, when I was searching for relief from chronic back pain after a dance injury. The more I practiced yoga, the less pain I experienced, until I no longer needed regular chiropractic treatments. Beyond pain relief, yoga has supported me through personal loss, grief, trauma, and post-traumatic stress. The balance and resilience yoga continues to bring to my life is why I am so passionate about sharing these tools with others.

  • Certified Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT) – Inner Peace Yoga Therapy
  • 500hr Certified Yoga Instructor – Yyoga Teachers College
  • Pain Care Aware Yoga Therapy – Specialized training for individuals and groups, with a 300hr professional mentorship under Neil Pearson (physical therapist, yoga therapist, pain science educator, author, UBC professor)
  • Trauma-Informed Yoga Instructor – Langara College
  • Functional Yoga Therapy Certification – Advanced assessment and treatment for functional movement
  • 15+ years in corporate marketing, bringing strong communication and organizational skills to my teaching
